As some of you are aware or at least to those who have been round when Obscured Cartoons first launched, you may have noticed our site has been updated. Now this was a HUGE update to the site and I would like to tell you what all has changed and the pros and cons of this new update.
With this update I was able to fix many things such as balancing issues and what I mean by that is if you were to look at another page like Comics or Toons then it would either be bigger or smaller compared to the homepage and that's mainly due to the fact that the page it's self is really just a design I made in photoshop and uploaded it on my site editor and used a combination of different images and layered them down on top of one another to give it the look it has but the issue that came into play here was it's sometimes very difficult to scale images in the site editor and at the time I was still learning about the site editor and what I did to fix this was I made a test home and a test page that were both identical with sizing and links, had to delete all the original pages and just start from scratch and create the new pages that are an exact copy of the test pages.
You can tell when you look at the navigation bar in your browser and click on a link on the site it will sat Test Comics rather than Comics and this isn't a big issue however I will ask the admins of my web hosting site and see if they can fix this for me but if not it's not that big of a deal as the site works and that's all that matters. The other major issue this update fixed was loading issues and what I mean by that is you would open the site and see certain images load at different times or a text that said “Start from scratch.” and the reason this happened was because at the time the homepage was compiled of different images all layered down into one in my site editor which gave it this look, same concept as photoshop but what made this difficult in the long run was I had to edit certain things on the homepage and create a new image, layer it over another image, re-create all the links and re-size everything which was a lot for the site to load at once and especially for those who may have a slower Internet connection.
As for the Start from scratch text, that was just a default text that every homepage starts off with in the site editor and forgot all about it and just dragged the homepage over it and I couldn't get to it by this point because it was in the very back of everything which would have been a nightmare during that time to fix.
Here are both the new and old site images I used to make the site just to give you an idea how I do things around here.
I'm very pleased with this new update and with just the general look and feel of everything, it still looks the same as to the original design with a small modern changes here and there and a lot of new stuff added in to give the site more personality. With this new update did come some setbacks that need to be fixed such as in the process of deleting all the original pages to the site it had also completely destroyed the mobile version of the site to which I had just finished not too long ago but I'm not too upset with this as I can always re-create the mobile version of the site and it's probably best that I do because I have some new ideas that I want to test out for the mobile version.
I'll keep you all updated on that and let you know when the mobile site is back but for now it will only work for desktop viewers but that's all the updates I have for now!
